Here at the Cottage Gallery, we pride ourselves on having over 30 years experience in the art industry. Our picture framing service expands year on year and from its arrival to its completion, everything is done right here at our gallery in Alsager, Staffordshire.
It’s fair to say we do like a challenge and firmly believe there’s nothing that can’t be framed and over the last six months we’ve certainly been put to the test!
One of the more unusual requests came from a customer asking if we’d be able to frame a crablock (see picture below). He still needed to access it, so it couldn’t go behind glass or be permanently fixed. Our first attempt was not as sleek as we had first envisioned, so it was back to the drawing board, eventually coming up with the rather nifty idea of hiding a magnet behind the board, to keep the lock in place. This worked a treat and gave the illusion that the lock was suspended in the frame. It’s completely accessible and the customer thought it looked great!
It’s very satisfying when you get to work on something that has great sentimental value. The medals, pictured below, were a surprise present for a lady who’s close relative had seen active service in the forces.
The medals are now on display, instead of hidden away in a drawer and can be enjoyed everyday. I feel privileged for the small part I played in preserving what may well have been lost with the passing of time.
We also frame plenty of sporting memorabilia, such as football shirts and tickets, and recently encased a signed football into a Perspex box (pictured below). However, our main business has and always will be framing pictures and photographs, any style and any size. For us, it’s about preserving something special, enhancing what is there and producing quality results that can be cherished forever. With a great selection of mouldings and mountboards (acid free) we feel we can do the job justice.
